The new release of Wowza Streaming Engine™ 4.8.20 (build 20220919162035) includes bug fixes and additional functionality.

The most important fixes are a fix for starting the transcoding process and a fix for transcoding freezing that occurs under certain conditions. A memory leak has also been fixed when converting a WebRTC stream to HLS.

Of the new features, it should be noted the use of the Beamr library for resizing the frame during transcoding (scaler). The library selection option is now also available in the Wowza Manager web management interface (previously, selection required editing an XML file). The transcoding process consists of three sequential operations (decode, scale, encode). Each of the operations can be performed by a separate library and before the release 4.8.20 scale was carried out by the old MainConcept library. Using Beamr for scaling should significantly increase the performance of the transcoder when generating multibitrate streams.
